This huge glass vessel has a funny name: a humpen. It may look more like a flower vase to you, but it's actually a kind of giant drinking glass. Can you imagine lifting it, and drinking from it?

People did drink from humpen, but only on special occasions, like honoring an important guest And even then it was only a short sip, like a toast. The drink inside wasn't important, but the decorations on the outside were. And its large size showed that it was expensive and unique. Maybe when I grow up, I will do something to earn one of these beautiful glass humpen. I would put it on a shelf in my house so that everyone could see it!
