From the sacristy of the church of Saint-Martin de Candes, Indres-et-Loire.

This fine early Gothic console, which retains much of its original coloring, originally supported a vaulting rib in the sacristy of the small church of St. Martin-de-Candes.  It illustrates an episode described in St. John's gospel (20:25-27) in which Christ affirms His resurrection.  He is accompanied by St. Peter and three disciples who serve as witnesses of the miracle.  The figure of Christ originally carried a cross-staff (now damaged), symbolizing His victory over death.
