Here, a transparent blue figure expires on a couch within a vast field of multicolored and patterned tessellated hexagons, a pattern found in natural crystals, snowflakes, and honeycomb. Schaechter wants us to swoon, as the woman in The Floor
does, from the sensory overload. She is superbly skilled and admittedly shameless in her use of color, line, shape, and pattern to achieve that kind of beauty, which she describes as the "extra special peak aesthetic experience that appeals to our ‘soul’ as well as our senses."
The pose of the figure was inspired by an image
from a French colonial newspaper published in Thailand, Le Petit Journal
, that Schaechter found online.
