Wayne Higby once stated about his work, “I strive to establish a zone of quiet coherence—a place full of silent, empty space where finite and infinite, intimate and immense intersect.”
Silent Rain is one in a series inspired by his visits to the flooded canyon of Lake Powell in Utah. Higby lightly sketched lines into the porcelain to signify sheets of rain falling into puddles; two accompanying “boulders” suggest the jagged cliffs nearby. His work is glazed in celadon to produce a pale, misty effect.
