The violence inherent in a machine of steel and glass designed to reach speeds of over 75 miles per hour is the subject of James Rosenquist’s abstract print, Violent Turn. This billboard-sized image highlights the danger such a machine—irrational, destructive—holds for a human body of flesh and bone. This was a threat the artist experienced first-hand in 1971 when he, his wife, and his son were all badly injured in a tragic car accident.
