This deep coiled basket is comprised of yucca fibers sewn over grass bundles. The leaves of the yucca plant supplied a variety of hues suitable for basket making, ranging from white to pale yellow to green. Black dye was made from sunflower seeds combined with piñon gum and ochre. [Gallery label text, 2009]
