Flanked by angels carrying censers, God the Father makes the sign of benediction. Angels gather blood from Christ’s wounds into chalices, emphasizing the liturgical significance of the scene. The dove representing the Holy Ghost has been lost. This piece was originally polychromed, or painted, and formed the central element of an elaborate altarpiece.
