In the artist’s own words, drawing “is a very intense part of my work...drawing is almost a daily experience - a means of exploring my ideas and giving structure to them.” Heliker studied life drawing at the Art Students League with Thomas Hart Benton, Boardman Robinson, and Kimon Nicolaides.
Like his farm scenes and landscapes, Heliker’s self-portraits provide an ongoing record of artistic and personal transformation over time.
