Artist
Louis Orr was born into a family of artists. He attended art school in Hartford, Connecticut, and was awarded a scholarship that permitted him to travel to Paris. There, he studied under Robert Laurens and became the first living American artist to be represented in the Louvre. He was appointed Official War Artist by the government of France during World War I. His works in America include images of university buildings, including Duke University, images of North Carolina sites, images of ports of America, and an etching of the United Nations headquarters.
