Marks on bottom: lion passant [British sterling silver standard mark indicating purity of .925]; crowned leopard head [indicating London manufacture]; elaborate M [date mark indicating 1797 manufacture]; IP / EW; scratched into bottom: [script L or unfinished pound sterling sign?] 32/9m; on front, engraved with family crest, sheild with banner of leaves across from u.l. to l.r.; u.r. and l.l. quadrants have three candles; banner with "TOUTJOURS PROPICE" [sic, =always favorable] below
