Werner Drewes said, “Nature is so rich, why shouldn’t non-objective art be the same?” Drewes’ bright planes of opaque and translucent color and contrasting curvilinear and geometric line and shape give this emphatically abstract painting the depth and complexity of a traditional landscape.
Drewes emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1930 only three years before the modern art school where he studied, the Bauhaus, was closed by Hitler.
