Wayne Higby is a professor and chair of the ceramics department at Alfred University in Alfred, New York. Higby states, “Essentially I am concerned with landscape imagery as a focal point of meditation. Space, both real and implied is of utmost importance. I strive to establish a zone of quiet coherence – a place full of silent, empty space where finite and infinite, intimate and immense intersect…”

This sculpture was made by Wayne Higby for "Art Reflected: The Inspiration of 100 Years," in which 41 noted regional artists created works reinterpreting objects in the Gallery’s collection. The new, original works were installed side-by-side with their sources of inspirationin the galleries from February to April, 2013. Higby's Stone Cloud was made in response to the painting Whitestone Bridge, 1939-1940, by Ralston Crawford (American, 1906-1978), MAG's accession number 1951.2
