The central figure is a human male, his outstretched arms grasping the neck of long-snouted two-headed beasts with the beaks of eagles and round haunches with clawed feet. The figure may represent Gilgamesh, the superhuman hero of Mesopotamian mythology, or Sraosha, the early Iranian god of justice. What seems clear, though, is that this finial symbolizes humankind’s dominion over the predatory forces of nature. -- from "Art at the Crossroads" brochure", "Dedication" : "Gift of Henry Hirschland", "Copyright_Type" : "Artist Unknown", "Disp_Obj_Type" : "Metalwork", "Creation_Place2" : "Iranian", "Department" : "", "Obj_Name" : "", "Period" : "", "Style" : "", "Edition" : "", "Curator" : "", "Images": [ { "ImagePath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/images/2007.35_A1.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Thumbnails/2007.35_A1.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Previews/2007.35_A1.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/2007.35_A1.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "1", "_SurrogateID" : "18612", "Image_Type" : "digital image", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , ] },{ "embark_ID" : 10567, "URL" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Objects-1/info/10567", "Disp_Access_No" : "1948.6", "_AccNumSort1" : "", "Disp_Create_DT" : "after 707 BCE", "_Disp_Start_Dat" : "706 BCE", "_Disp_End_Date" : "697 BCE", "Disp_Title" : "Whetstone Handle with Recumbent Ibex", "Alt_Title" : "", "Obj_Title" : "", "Series_Title" : "", "Disp_Maker_1" : "Unknown, Iranian", "Sort_Artist" : "Unknown, Iranian", "Disp_Dimen" : "3 7/16 x 2 x 3 15/16 in.
