Surrealism and then Abstract Expressionism influenced him early in his career. As his work became more figural, he turned for inspiration to the comic books he loved as a child. He painted his favorite comic book heroes and when he ran out of subjects, he began looking at other magazines for material. He combined pin-ups with commercial products, which evolved into the "Beauty and the Beast" series involving pin-ups and animals, then to an art history series reworking famous paintings of the Old Masters in his own slick style.
