Since the 1960sm Chihuly has been producing innovative forms in glass, and expanding the scale of his work to include entire glass installations. His work incorporates a lifelong pursuit of organic and asymmetrical forms such as the Basket series, inspired by the Northwest Coast Indian baskets. Chihuly's influence on the world of American craft is enduring. Founder of the glass department at the Rhode Island School of Design as well as the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington state, he represents the best and most creative glassmaking of our time.
