Like other early 20th century artists, e.e.cummings explored the potential of sensory relationships - dizzying compositions, and combinations of vivid color and bold patterns that suggest sound, for example. This paralleled his efforts to incorporate multiple sensory effects in his poetry. He worked in this style through 1925; in the years following, cummings abandoned abstraction and found delight in bringing his own experimental style to representational scenes.
