Cynthia Rubin, a native Rochesterian, has worked exclusively in digital media since 1988, though she studied painting and still identifies with the Abstract Expressionist painters. Like many of those artists, her main concern is color; for her, the computer is a tool that allows endless variations of bright, bold, pure hues.
This print predates Photoshop and accurate color scanners. Rubin scanned photographs and drawings into the computer whereby they became semi-abstracted. Then, she began the work of the painter – using her computer as her brush to layer colors, overlap colors in unusual ways, and experiment with color juxtapositions.
