Book Title: Sternberg: A Life in Woodcuts

Edition: 34/40

Printer: Brighton Press
Publisher: Brighton Press

In his book and portfolio of prints, Sternberg tells of his Jewish family’s emigration from Eastern Europe to America. Their first glimpse of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor must have buoyed their hopes for a better life for themselves and their children. Sternberg, like many artists who were children of vulnerable and impoverished immigrants, used his art to strive against social injustice and bring the plight of the oppressed to the attention of the greater society.
