The electrification of the countryside, intended to defeat the ignorance of the populace by bringing agricultural communities into the Machine Age, was a primary goal of the Soviet government. Here, the electric excavator forcefully removes two of the key opponents to the Soviet effort: the kulak, or wealthy landowner, and the low-level village priest.
