Gallery label text 2012:

Jim Dine’s focus on common objects and his use of unconventional materials like the plastic of this print link him to the Pop Art movement. Yet his use of intensely personal symbols stands in contrast to the cool objectivity of the Pop sensibility. Potent childhood memories of his family’s hardware store account for the frequent and iconic presence of tools in his work.
