The Dutch painter and etcher Kruseman van Elten exhibited works in Rochester in 1875 in the first exhibition of the Rochester Academy of Art, and also with the Rochester Art Club in the 11th-14th exhibitions, 1890-1895. The printer/publisher C.W. Forkel is listed in the 1877 Rochester Directory as a portrait and landscape painter. This etching was made from a watercolor by Rochester artist Christopher (Christo) W. Forkel. Asbury Methodist Church, depicted here, was erected at the southeast corner of Main Street and Clinton Avenue in 1884. The church in the background with the cross visible on the steeple is First Universalist Church, demolished in 1907.
