Metalwork
18th-century Pennsylvania Dutch communities used five-sided stoves created with cast-iron decorated plates like this one. Often, they were decorated with Biblical scenes and sayings. This stoveplate is embellished with a scene showing the attack on Abel by his brother, Cain, and the inscription reads: CAIN. SEINEN. BRUTER. AWEL. TOT. SCHLUG (Cain killed his brother Abel). The plate is thought to have been cast at Durham Furnace in Northern Bucks County, PA.
