Originally inspired by the lithographs of Walter Cassebeer (see Downington at the right), his technical knowledge of the medium was learned from master lithographer Bolton Brown (see stone for Tioga River in the case on the right). Ron Netsky, art historian, whose work is also on view in this exhibition, has written extensively on Menihan. Menihan was also a portrait painter, graphic designer, and muralist. In 1947, he won an unprecedented four First Prizes – in oil painting, watercolor, printmaking, and drawing – in the Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition.
