Davies was the driving force behind the 1913 Armory Show which introduced Americans to radical European abstract art, but his own style remained representational throughout his career. This tapestry of the artist’s signature lyrical nudes dancing in the landscape was one of 36 tapestries he designed and had woven by the famous Gobelins factories in France. Only six were sold during his lifetime; the rest were later destroyed in a fire. This object was measured and determined to be .2 even though the catalog card shows .2 dimensions as 4 yards x 6 1/2". The (rough) dimensions of this object taken on 2/15/06 are 134" x 14 1/4". Even though these clearly don''t match those dimensions listed on the catalog card, the .1 and .2 are exact matches in pattern, and both already had sewn tags of 45.78. At this time a sewn tag of 45.78.2 was attached to the original sewn tag.
