PERMANENT COLLECTION

How to find works in the Gallery's Collection

You can search the database by entering a keyword or artist's name into the Quick Search box, or you can use more sophisticated search functionality through the Advanced Search (Keyword, Date, Artist, etc.) options. To browse the collection by broad categories, choose Explore the Collection.

Help others find works in the Gallery's collection

What's memorable about your favorites in the Gallery's collection? How would you describe them to someone who had never seen them? The Gallery would like your help assigning keywords to works in the collection so that others can find them. There is a link on each object page ("Help Others Find this Object") to a list of keywords already assigned, and a form you can fill out to suggest additional keywords. If you're a teacher, you can also use this form to tell us about how you use this object in the classroom.

This database is a work in progress. At present, records from the American collection contain the most detailed information, but records from other areas of the collection are regularly updated and images are being added as they are scanned.

For more information about individual records or about this project, please contact the Curatorial Department of the Memorial Art Gallery. To support the Gallery's imaging and online initiatives, please contact Joseph Carney, Director of Advancement, at (585) 473-7720 x3016.

Support for the online database has been provided by the Henry Luce Foundation, the Louis S. and Molly B. Wolk Foundation, the Davenport-Hatch Foundation, Inc. and the Friends of the University of Rochester Libraries.

Additional support has been provided by the New York State Council on the Arts.
